'We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it: We called it mother, called it whore and slut, called it our beloved, called it Abraxas.'
Graham tells them, 'you're playing Woodstock'. They tell Graham, 'no we're not - we're not ready'. Graham tells them, 'you're playing Woodstock'.
Soul Sacrifice. Brings Yasgur’s fields down. Suddenly they'd arrived.
But it was this one that solidified them. This one made sure they were established and standing secure.
We had a musician neighbour on Crete. He and his group had their own club in downtown Chania. (It got slightly damaged by the earthquake.) He used to sing the praises of Santana. But I could tell he didn't know the real Santana, so I surfed to Amazon and bought him a copy of this one. His exact words when receiving it and listening through it a number of times:
'Holy shit.'
What happened to EDU in NA?
Yes, requirements for Mensa US are way down. A 13yo of yore could get into that top 2% in the US today. But more: EDU in NA is in serious decline. Some cites and comments from the above page.
Those first three songs are a magnificent tour de force! It may be the best opening to any debut album ever recorded. Extraordinarily good.
It's not a debut album.
I still play and Love my vinyl even 55 years after release
Careful with that CAPS LOCK.
Full stops end.
You know, conservative, white woman buying music with a big breasted, naked, black woman on the cover!👍😜
Thanks for sharing. What did she think of the Hermann Hesse quote?
Best album ever never will get forgotten
Try again?
Impossibly beautiful Italian girls. Sir yes sir.
Wrong party.
This was my time, the late 60's and '70's.
The 60's and 70's what? How come it's '70 but not with 60? You in a hurry, bro?
Talent was just oozing out of every orifice.
Metaphors...
it doesn't lost a pinch of its quality , I ' ve been listening to from my 17 ' years old , now I'm 53 ...!
OK. How's schooling coming?
Rock on hombre.
You're so cool.
How did these guys ever manage without auto-tune? Raw talent and intention.
There's little singing on it.
This song, this album is insanely and beautifully written and performed.....mind blowing to say the least. I LOVE the genius of Santana!!!
This was a group effort. That's why it succeeded.
Absolute classic, one of the best albums ever if not the best but it must be listened to as per track listing, no shuffling allowed
Thanks for the tip, Albert.
Got this album as a teenage birthday in the late 70s.
I lost at least 3 record collections over the years and this album was always in everyone.
In who? Did they like that?
I called her my Black Magic Woman cause she had jet black hair and coal black eyes.
Thanks for sharing.
I remember sitting outside my older brothers bedroom door listening to this entire album as he prepared himself mentally for playing basketball (point guard) on his varsity team in good ole Wyoming Ohio. GO COWBOYS!! ( they went to state that year but lost) circa 1972ish. Santana. Timeless!
Old Wyoming Ohio. Go Cowboys!
Gotta take another hit.
Verstehe.
People forget, when they say that there we need more diversity today...
Doesn't matter what there they say.
Michael Shrieve, Gregg Rolie, Dave Brown, and Carlos Santana = a fantastic band!
Yes. But there were more than four, no?
This is one of the finest album ever made
Sounds as great today as it did back in 1970. I love Gregg Rollie's vocals
Rolie's aren't bad either.
In 1977, I was a skinny, white boy from Yorkshire "studying" at the University in Perugia. Most days ended up at the free, open air swimming pool. Abraxas was the only record they had, played over and over, all day, every day. Impossibly beautiful Italian girls, dispiritingly handsome Italian fellas and Santana. I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
Did you get laid in heaven?
I picked this album up for 50p at a car boot sale in the 80s. It was the best 50p I ever spent.
Not from North America.
Should have listened too it in it's entirety a long time ago!
Before or after language class?
I am Iranian and now live in US. I listened to the album over and over when I was 18 years old and lives in Iran. I could play the whole album in my head in details. I learned to play the precautions and loved it.
Considering he's from Iran and lived in Italy, one can forgive precautions instead of percussion, lives instead of lived. But his English, even as a second or third language, is still better than that of most morons on that page.
(Forgive any grammatical or concordance errors, I used the google translator kkkkkk)
You did OK! But you’re asking them?
I wasn't even born when this album came out and it's one of the albums I enjoy the most thank you santana and all other musicians that were part of it all of em are fantastic
Insightful tomorrow we're going to learn what a sentence is how to start a sentence to end a sentence and also upper case and when to use it
I bought this album in 1970, 20 years old, One year before my son was born, he is now 50...
Thanks. We can figure that out.
I'm 66 years old and I grew with this music until now so much memories ....
Occasional gaps?
This album is a masterpiece.
It turned out well.
Amazing album, the instrumentation is genuinely outstanding.
Thank you Leonard. Truly.
I love old rock and roll and blues songs. I play guitar with friends and we enjoy the music.
The Santa Fe freight is due in any second. You wanna stick around?
Carlos Santana is one of the most influential and greatest guitarists of the last 50 years
Life of the party.
I remember how mesmerized I was by the art on the album cover.
Big black tits?
Definitely an important part of the soundtrack of my teenage years.
Carlos is honoured.
Black Magic Woman was a super hit in 1970 - and still on top of several lists! We used to try and play the song at all concerts, absolutely popular and in demand all over India.
He's from INDIA! And he writes better English than you ass-wipes!
I was a weekend morning DJ on an AOR FM station during the 70s and 80s. This was one of my go-to records for the first half hour or so after signing on. It's perfect morning music.
From the US. So how did he get educated?
****
Note: This isn't a criticism of the commenters, even though their sloppy use of language is enervating (look it up).
It's a warning sign of something seriously wrong with EDU in the West.
