Phillip Karber is president of the Potomac Foundation. He's been with them since 1988. His CV can be seen here.

Karber's worked with UK PM Maggie Thatcher, NATO, and has credentials from the Wharton Business School and the Harvard Business School.
Here he speaks at West Point, repeating a talk he gave only hours earlier at Sandhurst. Watch from the 27-minute mark.
As Andrei Martyanov and others have pointed out for years, the Russians have developed an entirely new method of warfare. Consider: the Ukie forces are 600,000 strong, the Russian forces are a mere 200,000, yet they're mopping up. The Ukies are NATO/US-trained. Normally you use the thumb rule that you need three times the forces of your enemy to attack, yet the Russians have exactly the opposite. And still they're winning. Some pundits reckon things will be over in a fortnight, but the Russians will say 'it's over when it's over'.
The Russians have taken pains to protect as much as possible of resources (buildings and above all civilians). Unlike the US who caused seven times as much damage in Iraq, as but one example. The yanks don't care as much about fellow human beings who live halfway around the globe. The Russians regard Ukrainians as their own - it's the psychopathic OSS/Nuland-injected-and-cultivated Bandera Nazis that no one wants.
Tanks are starting to roll into Mariupol. More is known today about the 'mystery guests' holed up inside Azovstal, reportedly some 300 of them, but still more needs to be known.
Zelensky wanted to speak before the government of Kenya? WTF? They said that - and 'GTFO' too. US military brass in Washington are trying to contact their colleagues in other countries who don't want to pick up.
It's not over yet, but the end is mostly in sight. There are so many videos on BitChute it's not funny. Ukie casualties hit an all-time high this week. Mercenaries from the US trapped in Azovstal break down in tears when talking to their colleagues on the outside. They have no food, no ammo, no way out, and, having worked for Azov, their chances of surviving are slim, if not nonexistent. It's not over yet, but the end is mostly in sight.
Things are fluid, as many have said. And they're happening fast. The key area right now is Mariupol and the Azovstal iron works, almost a city within a city. And, for the record, the people of Mariupol hate the Bandera Nazis and have fought them many times throughout history. They're glad to see them gone. If only the OSS of Allen Dulles hadn't decided to spare them from the Nuremberg purges. (They're war criminals, including their leaders, both back then and today.) If only Victoria Nuland hadn't harboured hatred of all things Russian. If only Z-big hadn't suggested, back in 1997 in the Yeltsin years, that Russia can be chopped up into three separate pieces. If only the pencil-pushers in the Truman Building didn't believe nuclear holocausts are OK now and then, like a lab-leak from a screwed-up half-baked Daszak-sponsored Fauci-financed Dr Strangelove scenario to 'save the world'.
Russia's going to expand. Putin's going on an empire rampage. That's what those zero-experience Ivy League grads really believe.
Russia spans eleven time zones. Nine, ten, eleven. Their morning TV shows show the time onscreen alright - but are they going to show eleven clocks on screen all at once? Will any Russkie even know the names of those zones?
Russian morning TV shows have only the minutes past the hour. Think about it.
Putin wants to expand? To where? Putin is smart. And wise. Unlike his colleagues in the west. Putin already knows that it's the overextending that always brings about the downfall of empires. Putin just wants to be left alone. But the US won't leave him alone.
Russuphobia is the new black. That's what the Ukies believe. That's why they want everyone in Donbass gone. That's why they destroyed Inna, the Madonna of Gorlovka and her infant daughter, and 14,000 more. That's why Zelensky planned an invasion for early March.
Russuphobia is taking on silly but dangerous proportions. This report is very unsettling because it's almost an exact repetition of Germany in the 1930s. History doesn't almost rhyme, doesn't almost repeat, it goes through an infernal copyedit and gets ten times worse.

People are not only being tied up to street furniture as suspected looters, but people are being bound up or arrested for being pro-Russian, for not being able to say the word 'Palyanytsya' in Ukrainian. Not every ethnic Russian speaker in Ukraine can speak good Ukrainian, and some have trouble pronouncing certain words in Ukrainian. People have been reportedly killed for not pronouncing the shibboleth word correctly and thus assumed to be part of subversive Russian reconnaissance groups.
For 8 years Ukrainian nationalists have internalised naked hate against Russian-speaking Ukrainians and by default judged them to be guilty of being pro-Russian. Within this scope includes being pro-Minsk Agreements, advocating for peace in Donbass, or highlighting human rights abuses. Against this background of feverish witch hunts, any hint of the slightest suspicion of cooperation with or aiding of Russians is tantamount to a summary execution in some situations or, more likely, a beating and being handed over to the SBU.
Today we learn that Zelensky's arrested Viktor Medvedshuk, interviewed by Oliver Stone for one of his Ukraine documentaries.
Other prominent citizens who've run afoul:
Vlodymyr Struk, mayor of Kreminna
Denis Kireev, high-ranking government official
Mikhail and Aleksander Kononovich, political party leaders
Nestor Shufrych, parliament deputy
Yuri Tkachev, journalist
Yan Taksyur, author
Elena Berezhnaya, figure skater
Dmitry Dzhangirov, TV presenter
Yuriy Dudkin, political scientist
Maxim Rindkovsky, MMA competitor
Dmitry Skvortsov, journalist
Aleksandr Matiushenko, from the organisation 'Livytsia'
Oleg Smetanin, violinist
No one seriously believes Zelensky's calling the shots. That job would fall to Dmitri Yarosh. Zelensky won the election precisely because he vowed to end the genocide in Donbass. But, when he got into office, Yarosh told him that, if he tried, he (Yarosh) would take him (Zelensky) out and kill him.
Now Yarosh has five of his people in the government, all oppositional parties have been shut down, all independent media have been shut down, and Yarosh and his Aryan brothers want the people of the Donbass either gone or killed. Their incessant shelling of the area hasn't targeted military positions but residential and civic areas.
'To propagate a total extermination of the Kremlin vultures and ghouls, local traitors and turncoats, its voluntary helpers and accomplices - instead of 'reconciliation' with the traitors of the Motherland and the enemies of the Ukrainian people.' - Svoboda, the political movement supported by John McCain but banned by the EU
'In short, under Zelensky's rule, the government agencies and others armed groups are detaining, imprisoning, and killing people in Ukraine. Anyone that criticises or is considered as opposing his government, any perceived actions, current or historical, is duly noted, and thus is likely to get persecuted and detained by either the SBU or irregular paramilitary groups. The government knowingly allows these human rights abuses in its own interest.'
'The fate of at least a dozen well known opposition activists, political analysts, journalists, politicians, and bloggers remains unclear. All this is taking place with a cold indifference by well known western human rights organisations and, more strikingly, the western corporate MSM, all under the auspices of the supposedly 'enlightened', 'civilised', Europe and North America. No one is raising a voice against these actions.'
One is inexorably drawn to recall Merchant/Ivory's The Remains of the Day with Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, Christopher Reeve, and Hugh Grant. The story, based on the book of the same name, is about many things, but one thing it hovers over again and again is the attempt of Lord Darlington to mollify the Nazis in 1930s Europe.
We're back there again, fully supported by an empire that has overextended itself and will typically do anything not to lose control, even going so far as to collaborate with the very elements that the Nuremberg trials were designed to eradicate for all time.
Stop the Presses!
It's a fluid situation...
